With the Flash Drive connected to the USB port of your computer:

For SD card owners, the common way to connect an SD card to a Mac needs a card reader. If changing the USB ports did not work, try to change a card reader for a new round of tests. The four steps of troubleshooting a USB drive not showing up on Mac are very basic, however, quite helpful in most cases. Not long ago i've decided to start using my Mac mini again but the first thing I heard was three beeps. I started researching this problem and it was a problem with my ram slot. I don' know how to fix this problem but maybe someone here had the same problem as I do. I've got an Mac mini mid 2011 on 10.10.x with 2X 4gb Ram. Sometimes my Mac Mini (2010 unibody server model) will recognize an SD card. But then after it's ejected, it won't recognize a new one inserted - sometimes not even the same SD card. The Mac Mini just refuses to mount a SD card after the original card is pulled out/ejected. Mac mini (Mid 2011): 2.3 or 2.5 GHz dual-core Intel Core i5, 2/4 GB RAM (8 GB max), integrated Intel HD 3000 Graphics or AMD Radeon HD 6630M graphics, 4 USB 2.0 ports, FireWire 800, Thunderbolt and Mini-DVI, dual display support. The situation that a SD card is not showing up on Mac or MacBook is usually aroused by poor connection. You can test the SD card on different USB ports, computers or card readers. ① Plug out the SD card and see whether there is dirt on the contacts. Use an eraser to slightly clean them.

1. Click Finder in the upper left corner of the screen and select Preferences
2. Ensure the check box next to External disks is checked

If the Finder preferences are set to mount external drives to the desktop we will need to determine if the USB flash drive is detected by the computer

1. Double click the MAC HDD
2. Double click Applications
3. Double Click Utilities
4. Select System Information
5. On the left side selectUSB

If you see Flash Drive listed under the USB hub the USB flash drive is detected properly. You can verify is the drive is mounted by Selecting 'Go > Go to folder' from the file menu and typing /Volumes/ (Note: This is case sensitive). This will open the mount point for all drives connected to the Mac computer. You should see the drive mounted here.

If the USB flash drive is not listed under USB hub please verify other USB devices work properly and if possible test the USB flash drive using a different computer. If the USB flash drive is not detected on other computers or if other USB devices are working properly on this Mac then most likely the USB drive is not functional.

If the USB drive appears non-functional per the above troubleshooting, please contact SanDisk support for further assistance with warranty.

Hi everyone; thought I'd offer a tip.

Sometimes my Mac Mini (2010 unibody server model) will recognize an SD card... but then after it's ejected, it won't recognize a new one inserted -- sometimes not even the same SD card. The Mac Mini just refuses to mount a SD card after the original card is pulled out/ejected.

This tip from 2011 for iMacs appears to work quite well to fix this issue... at least one my Mac Mini.

'Turns out this is not a software problem, but a hardware problem. There is a small switch inside the card reader that signals to the computer that a card has been inserted. This switch can get stuck.'

'The solution is to insert a toothpick or other non-conductive “stick” into the SD card slot to free up the switch. According to posts on the Apple site, the switch is located at the top/back of the card slot. I also poked around the bottom/back of the slot for safe measure (I never actually saw the switch). After “flossing the inside of the slot a couple times, the reader works once again!'

Remember! Don't use any metal or other conductive materials! Do use plastic or, if you're confident you won't leave splinters behind, a wodden toothpick!

Odd error for the Mac Mini SD Card slot, and odd fix, eh?
